Just Engaged? When to Book Your Wedding Photo Booth

Newly engaged? Here's when to book your wedding photo booth, why the best dates go early, and what to have sorted before you get in touch.

Congratulations, now the fun bit

The ring's on, the messages have calmed down, and someone has already asked if you've set a date. Welcome to wedding planning.

Most couples start with the big three: venue, date and photographer. A photo booth usually comes a little further down the list, and that's fine. But if you've got your heart set on a particular booth, it's worth thinking about sooner than you might expect.

How far ahead should you book?

As soon as your venue and date are confirmed. That's the honest answer.

We regularly take bookings two years ahead, and our busiest summer Saturdays are often spoken for well over a year out. If your wedding is on a Friday, a Sunday or outside peak season, you'll usually have a bit more breathing room, but not as much as you'd think.

There's no real benefit to waiting. Securing your date early just takes one more thing off the list.

Why the best dates go first

Every booth can only be in one place at a time. When two couples want the same booth on the same Saturday in June, the first to book gets it.

That matters more with some booths than others. Our Photomatic is a one of a kind booth, so there is only ever one available on any given day. Our wooden ICON is in similarly short supply. Once those dates are taken, they're taken.

Venues play a part too. Popular venues fill their calendars early, and the couples who book them tend to book their suppliers early as well.

What to have sorted before you enquire

You don't need every detail nailed down. These are the things that help us give you an accurate quote straight away:

  • Your date. Even a shortlist of two or three helps.
  • Your venue. We'll check access and travel, and we may well have worked there before.
  • Rough timings. When your evening guests arrive and when you'd like the booth running.
  • Guest numbers. A ballpark figure is plenty.

Everything else, from your print design to your backdrop, can be decided much closer to the day.

Choosing the right booth for your day

The right booth depends on your venue and the feel you're going for.

  • ICON and Retro are open-air booths. They suit bigger groups and keep everyone in the party rather than tucked away behind a curtain.
  • The Photomatic is the one people talk about afterwards. A proper statement piece for couples who want something nobody else will have.
  • The Halo is sleek, minimal and runs without an attendant, which works well for more relaxed celebrations.

If you're torn between two, tell us about your venue and your plans. We're happy to point you in the right direction.
